How to Know the will of God?

Apparently every Christian will have a question of how to know the will of God and in fact would eager to know it. Everyone who walk with god, will always desire to know his will and to act upon HIS Will, we sometimes would try with human efforts, experiences and the things heard from sermons, churches, books, youtubes etc..

We could draw to a contextual understanding based on the incidents in the bible and with that understanding, we would try to replicate the same or similar to the occurrences in our life to identify the will of  God.

In Judges 6th chapter we read Gideon asked God to know the will of God : “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised— look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.”  And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water.

Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.” That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew.

Here Gideon wanted a clear confirmation from God to know whether it is his will to fight against the enemies, so he tested with a sign and it came to pass, perhaps it could be because of fear.

Outside the will of God,

There is nothing I want

inside the will of God

There is nothing I Fear.  - A.W Towzer

But if you read Romans 12 : 1-2 it depicts a very good view of the will of God, perhaps if we go for a fast reading then chances are there to miss the essence and the deeper understanding. So take a pause and read carefully & slowly and pay attention to the underline below -

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

When you get transformed by the renewing of your mind, you will be able to know the will of God. Here the subject renewal is the key element, it is a continual process of shaping our thoughts, mind & heart by walking and mediating the word of god every day. When we do this regularly, we will be able to test and approve what is his GOOD, PLEASING and PERFECT WILL.

It is not an immediate response or answers to expect from God to know HIS WILL, but Meditate, walk & exercise continually !

Amen !
